A highlight of our trip to Tunisia was crossing the Chott El Jerid as we travelled from Douz to Tozuer. The Chott El Jerid is the largest salt lake in Tunisia though it's not your typical lake as it's dry for 9 months of the year and even when there is water on the surface, it's never more than knee deep.

As we went further into the Chott, the mirages got better and the amount of flora and greenery we could see decreased. We had the road to ourselves for long stretches and it felt like we were in another world almost. When we finally saw some water, it was the most bizarre colour - a beautiful mix of reds and white. It didn't diminish as we got closer. I've never see anything quite like it.
