"Our favorite Zermatt hotel" Schlosshotel Tenne Tip by VA_Dave

We had 3 free days after a business trip to Geneva for skiing Zermatt in February 2006, so at the last minute we emailed the Schlosshotel Tenne asking for a room for 3 days. It had been recommended by a Swiss friend, but we did not expect to get a room for such a short stay during high season.

A few minutes later we got an email saying a room was available, and it included a view of the Matterhorn, plus it had a jacuzzi. We booked immediately.

When we arrived, we were told that we were very lucky to get any room. The guest who had been staying in our room had just broken his leg skiing!

We spent three great days at the Tenne, ending with a morning helicopter tour around the peaks, including the Matterhorn. The helicopter then let me off on a high ridge between Switerland and Italy, and I skied 15 km down to Cervinia in Italy, and then took a series of gondolas up to Monte Rosa, and then skied down to Zermatt in time to catch the afternoon train back to Geneva.

The Tenne was a perfect hotel for the perfect vacation! The staff could not have been more helpful, the jacuzzi got lots of use, and the breakfasts were amazing.

Unique Qualities: Built in an art nouveau style, and filled with beautiful antiques which have been collected over the years. The old wooden beam construction came from five typical old Valaisan huts near Randa.

Our room had a nice view of the Matterhorn from our window and our balcony. Jaccusi in our room. Fitness center in the hotel. Fantastic breakfast included with room. Tennis courts available. Free internet terminal and broadband connection.

Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: Next to the train station, and next to the Gornergrat lift! It could not be convenient.
