"Where Chopin was christened" Mazowsze Things to Do Tip by evaanna

11 km north of Zelazowa Wola you come across Brochow, a small village with a magnificent 16th century church. It was here that on 23 April 1810 little Fryderyk Chopin was christened. The church must have been of some significance to the Chopin family as it was also here that his parents had been married four years earlier and that his sister Ludwika was married in later years.
The church itself is truly imposing: in the Gothic and Rennaissance styles, with three towers, one on each side of the gate and one over the chancel. Untypically, the church is defensive in character and surrounded by fortifications with four corner bastions. As I only have a picture of the portal, have a look at the page on the Web to see all of it.
If you have time to spare, take a walk to the Bzura River along a path across the fields at the back of the church to get a great view of its imposing structure, but also to take in the peace of the Mazovian fields and see the rows of weeping willows, which Chopin's music is often associated with.
