Kayak Parengarenga White Silica Sands in Distance
by kotitihaere

When you are heading north and have passed through Te Kao, you will notice on your right spectacular white sand dunes sparkling in the sun. The water in front of there is the Parengarenga Harbour.

Kayaking out there is spectacular - and you can kayak over to the white sands. These sands are silica and unlike most other types of sand, it is cool to touch, even in the middle of the day with the sun beating down. The sand is also very fine and will get into anything.

Pack Or Paddle, south of Waitiki landing hires out kayaks and you can hop into them just across the road as one of the forks of the Parengarenga harbour comes right up. Naturally, how long it will take you depends on the tides :-)
