Agios Stefanos stands on a pinnacle separated from the main cliff by a deep gorge. A bridge now allows to reach easily the monastery, now for nuns.
It was visited in 1333 by the Byzantine Emperor Andronicus III Paleologus (c. 1296 - June 15, 1341). The head of Saint Stephen is preserved in the monastery's cathedral together with beautiful gold-leaved wood carvings, wall paintings and old icons.
