"Piazza San Pietro" St. Peters Square ( Piazza San Pietro) Tip by andrewyong

St Peter's Square has witnessed so many events and always draw huge crowds during canonisation ceremonies presided by the Pope. The facade you see of St Peter's today (from the piazza) is like what it was about 600 years when it was built as it was meticulously cleaned in time for the Great Jubilee 2000.

If you see a picture of St Peter's on a postcard, it would probably look brown and drab as it was covered with the soot and pollution of the last 600 years. Now that it's clean again, grab the chance to see it as it would be all brown in no time.

If you stand in the middle of the square near the obelisk, you will notice that the three columed colonade will appear to have only one column, such is the symetry of the design.
