Fitzpatricks is the name given to the restaurant which now occupies the building formerly housing O'Grady's restaurant. There are those who would be delighted at the business changing hands, but I was a great O'Grady's fan and the new owners had a lot to live up to.

The building itself is the lodge of an ancient hospital (which in itself has been converted to apartments) and is a very beautiful building. The new owners gutted it and totally revamped it inside, while retaining all of the wonderful period charm of the exterior. The result inside is a warm and welcoming eatery set out in rooms of different sizes. The decor is modern and in colours of browns, creams and splashes of burgundy to add colour.

In my opinion the restaurant aims itself at the family market, tourists, and occasion diners. You can book out the whole place for a party or reception.

The menu is international and hearty fare. It includes all the usual staples such as chicken, seafood pie, steaks, crispy duck etc. Each evening there is a selection of seafood special dishes displayed on the blackboard.

Prices vary very much depending on what you order. There are early bird and special offer menus at Euro50 and Euro60 for two people for three courses including a bottle of wine. My experience is that if you order a la carte you pay this amount for one person without wine for what is relatively the same fare.

I find this place to be a bit hit and miss, which is a real pity as I know the owners and the staff of old and they do try very hard. When the food is only occasionally great I think one can only point towards the chef. If your meal is freshly cooked it is fantastic, but on occasion certain dishes taste as if they have been defrosted pre-prepared meals. In good restaurants these days you are entitled to expect everything to be cooked from scratch for you.

Favorite Dish: I don't have a favourite dish here, but I will use this spot to commend the staff, who are without a doubt the most friendly, helpful, and accomodating staff of any restaurant in the City. Special words here for Ken and kevin - marvellous work lads.
