We stayed three days at Hotel Lopez (which is inside the old city). The hotel has rooms with two beds and airconditioning. Your daily lodgings include a continental breakfast of juice, coffee and toast.

We were satisfied. Rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel was noisy during the day as they were refurbishing the third floor (lots of hammering, etc.). The passage ways between rooms is a unique design -- they used curved narrow walkways right next to the rooms. The centre interior passage way is open to the sky. Actually had it not been raining one day, I would never have thought to look up and realize that it was open to the outside.

Generally, we found Campeche hotels more expensive than others we found in the Yucatan (at least more expensive than Merida, Progreso, Celestun or Chetumal). Our guidebooks for the Hotel Lopez were out-of-date in that they have been doing renovations to improve the rooms, we were allowed to pay using credit cards (guidebook said not), and there was parking across the street (for those with vehicles - again gb said not). Price per night (taxes included) in February 2006 was 386 pesos (about $US37). We checked other hotels (like the Baluartes with a pool), but its cost per day was over 1000 pesos.

Hotel Lopez has no web access by the way -- at least not in 2006.
