"Go in if you have time" Catedral de la Annunciacion Tip by hquittner
Catedral de la Annunciacion, Granada: 54 reviews and 122 photos
The Cathedral, like all of those in the major cities of Spain, is a massive structure. It was started after the Capilla Real was built, with a succession of great architects and changes in style: de Egas, de Siloe (1523-63) and its West facade (pictured here) considered a masterpiece by Alonso Cano (the painter) in 1667.The bas reliefs upon it were done a century later. This facade is said to be patterned after a Roman triumphal arch, with its tall 3 arcades (which mark the central nave and 2 pairs of lateral aisles.(1). On our 1st trip (20+ years ago) it was closed to tourists (Sunday Mass) and on our second trip, the bus just hurried by and all we saw was the belfry(2).( Guide books are not ecstatic about its contents).Everyone hurries on to the Capilla Real.
