  Teatro Regio
by Mikebond

Teatro Regio ("Royal theatre", the yellow building in the middle of the picture) lies in Strada Garibaldi, a nice street for pedestrians and bicycles, as you see here.
The theatre was built in Neoclassic style between 1821 and 1829 on a plan by Nicola Bettoli according to the wish of Duchess Maria Luigia (Wien 1791 - Parma 1847), Emperor Franz I's daughter.
It was inaugurated on 16th May 1829 with a piece Vincenzo Bellini composed to celebrate the event. Today, it is one of the most famous Italian lyrical theatres.
I didn't visit the inside, so I haven't got any picture, but it is very beautiful.

Address: strada Garibaldi
