"Weary-All Hill" Glastonbury Things to Do Tip by Sjalen
Glastonbury Things to Do: 59 reviews and 115 photos
Also known as Wyrral, this hog's back hill (click to see it as it looks from the top of the Tor) is where Joseph of Arimathea, one of Jesus' desciples, landed when he was sent to Britain. A thorn is said to have sprouted from his staff when he landed here and this then grew here for centuries until destroyed, and is the origin of the thorns you see in the abbey and elsewhere in Glastonbury today. Whatever truth there is to the legend, Joseph DID own lead mines in the area and was here. It is also definate that the thorn bushes are of a Mediterranean type not normally found this far north.
