Silja Line: "Take the overnight ferry to Stockholm!" Helsinki Hotel Tip by travelfrosch
Helsinki Hotels: 265 reviews and 325 photos
One of the least expensive ways to sleep in the Nordic region is to take advantage of the overnight cruise from Helsinki to Stockholm. If you book a cabin below car deck, you can really save money and have a great cruise. The best deal is to book "roundtrip," in which you get the same cabin for 2 consecutive nights, plus you get to tour Stockholm for 8 hours before the ship sails again. For a cabin that sleeps up to 4, the cost can be as low as EUR 185. That's TOTAL. For BOTH NIGHTS.
In addition, Eurail and Scanrail holders can get steep discounts. In fact, for 4 passholders staying in the same cabin, passage is free. Note: Eurail Flexipass holders need to use a flexi day to get the fare.
Another cruise line, Viking, offers nearly identical deals. The main differences are that Viking offers deck passage and does not offer discounts for railpass holders.
Unique Qualities: - Enjoy a wonderful cruise ship with all of the amenities for a very low price
- Magnificent buffet breakfasts and dinners (cost extra, highly recommended)
- Gorgeous sunset views on deck
- Countless bars, pubs, clubs, shops, and other distractions
Address: Keilaranta 9, Espoo, FI-02060 SILJA
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: Silja ferries depart from the Olympia Terminal, on the west side of the harbor, south of the main market. (Viking ferries depart on the opposite side of the harbor.)
