Llywelyn the Great Statue, Conwy: 2 reviews and 2 photos
This man lived in the 11th/12th centuries. When he was 28 years of age in the year 1200 he came to the throne of Gwynedd (which is an area of Wales) and he was also a supporter of King John the then King of England. He even married a daughter of the King. As the years went by though King John, probably through jealousy invaded Gwynedd and took the majority of land owned by Llewelyn off him. As Llewelyn hadnt by this time had any children he also had to make King John his heir. Along the way there was battles with each other and with others. Suffice it to say they didnt get on! In the end Llewelyn it seems did become great in Wales and was respected.
He died in Aberconwy Abbey in 1240.
His statue here in Lancaster Square is outside the police station.
