The bedroom of the last king of Poland - Stanislaw August Poniatowski - is the most beautiful of all the rooms in the King's Apartment. It was designed by Jakub Fontana and finished by Domenico Merlini in 1775. Yew-wood panelling, upholstery fabric decorations and paintings by Marcello Bacciarelli

The room's extraordinary character derives from its elegantly carved yew-wood panelling, the delicacy of the patterns in the upholstery fabric decorations, as well as the warm colors of the two paintings by Marcello Bacciarelli: "Rebecca and Eleazar" and "Esther and Ahasuerus" make the bedrrom warm and pleasant.

King Stanislaw August wasn't married. His bed is not a King size. However he had four children probably with 3 women of which one was 16 years younger than him. Hmm... is it king's life? Unfortunatelly at age 24, being in St. Petersburg, Russia Stanislaw August had a romance with young princess Catherine II of Russia, later Empress of Russia. Their daughter Anna Piotrowna was born in 1757 and died at age of 15 months. Formally Catherine's husband Peter III of Russia recognized Anna Piotrowna as his daughter. Well, he was Emperor of Russia only six months. He was murdered probably by his wife (a femme fatale ?) who soon later managed to divide Poland and incorporate large part of the country to Russia. Some says that the earlier romance with Polish king Stanislaw August helped her to achieve it.
