  A walk in the park

Okay, so it's arguably the world's finest race car track. No going round and round in boring circles here. This is the track with everything. Steep hills, bends of every description, a drop off the mountain that has to be experienced to be believed, Conrod Straight that had to have a kink put in it because cars were getting airborne at high speed. Mount Panorama is sensational.
However, that's only a few kilometres of Bathurst. This prosperous rural town, whose initial wealth had more to do with gold than sheep or grains, has a lovely legacy from those times with much of the architecture and parkland preserved.
As you can probably gather, it's one of my favourite rural stops and these days it also has education as one of its mainstays so there's always the background of vibrant youth in the streets.
It's certainly a place where you can spend some time with nearby Hill End and Sofala preserved pretty much as they were in the halcyon days of gold though there is little left these days.

Directions: About two hours west of Sydney
