Chéticamp, Nova Scotia, is a logical stop before entering the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, by being the western entrance to the park and the start of the best part of the Cabot Trail. In Chéticamp you will find quite a few public facilities, like places to stay, shops, and most people like to fill up their car here before continueing the scenic drive.

Chéticamp has almost 4,000 residents, which are mainly Acadians, and has always been a fishing village. The name of the village is from a Micmac word meaning shallow harbour. And not much has changed in this part of the world since those days, as the harbour is still very shallow, with only 25 feet deep at its deepest point. What you might notice in Chéticamp are these bright coloured houses. I really like them, so I couldn't pass by without making a quick stop here.

Before you arrive in Chéticamp (in Cap Le Moine) you might see something you've never seen before, and that is a 'scarescrow park'! (see the last photo). This place is called "Joe's Scarecrows" and I would suggest making a quick stop here. Not that the scarecrows are that fantastic, but it is just so bizarre seeing almost a hundred scarecrows side by side, in the middle of nowhere, on the side of the road. The entrance is free, it's the gift shop beside it that wants to attract customers in the 'unusual' and 'scary' way :-)
