  THE CRAB...with sauce bearnaise
by bpacker

Update:This shop recently earned the notorious reputation of the shop with one of the rudest service staff around. So, do be prepared for those barbed comments when you visit this place for good food!

Mention butter crabs to any Singaporean and immediately, you'll see Pavlovian drools. How can we help it? This island is famous for chilli crabs and lately, butter crabs. In case you don't know what they are, picture this - whole Sri Lankan crustaceans deep fried with butter and more butter. It's a dish that will make Elvis Presley beam with delight since it's loaded with enough fat to make 10 fried peanut butter sandwiches. But honestly, the King would have loved this dish, especially the one that is served in this Ang mo Kio eatery. This place was so good that local actor, Mark Lee was spotted there. Yes, this actor was my hallmark of good food. Despite his skinny appearence, he's known to be a foodie and the last time I spotted him in Geylang, he was indulging in frog leg porridge that turned out to be heavenly . Well, this time round, he was in this eatery so I knew the food would be good. And it was. The crabs were whole, firm to the bite and succulent. Even the shells were crammed with rich, orangey creamy roe and it tasted heavenly with the butter sauce, or shall i say Bearnaise sauce? Yes, the sauce had a little twist to it and it tasted suspiciously like an emulsion of butter in egg yolks. Whatever it was, it was delicious and Mark Lee ordered the same dish.

Favorite Dish: In order of preference:

1)Butter Crabs of course!
2)Crab Bee Hoon(around 1kg crab)
3)Claypot crab soup

Each dish cost around S$10-$20. Worth every cent I assure you. Go after 9pm if you do not want to wait too long for your dishes.
