"Hidden Museum of Clocks" Top 5 Page for this destination Old Town Tip by matcrazy1
Old Town, Warsaw: 8 reviews and 13 photos
If you like old small and medium-size clocks, other precise devices and jewelry it's place for you. There are masterpieces of old masters and those who wanted to achieve a title of master in engraving or gold smithsery which, I see, was not that simple in the past. The oldest items date back to 16th century. The exposition is free of charge and that offer includes a guide who perfectly can speak Polish. She was a dedicated passionate of all items displayed and could talk hours about them. My recommendation is to tip that friendly lady to help her to afford English classes or just to make her happy :-), maybe even 5 zl or less.
This tiny museum is, despite location in the Old Tows, is problably the least visited in Warsaw. Its entrance is a bit hidden and is not well signed. Walking Podwale street outside the city walls when you see Kilinski monument and that clock in my picture turn to Piekarska street and immediately turn left to Rycerska Street where the entrance is (map here). The museum is called in Polish different and a bit complicated: Muzeum Rzemiosl Artystycznych i Precyzyjnych which means literally: Museum of Artistic and Precise Handicraft. The name derives from the name of the guild which runs the museum. Members of that guild love free weekends and short working hours exactly like me. But they are more lucky working Mon - Fri but only from 9 am to 3 pm and not always. Once I was on Tuesday and the door was closed (lunch break or strike ?). The next time I had to climb narrow, spiral stairs to reach the exposition. which was put downstairs by the time when old clocks fans were defeated by caffee lovers.
