On April, 1975, Taiwan mourned the passing of President Chiang Kai-shek. In June, the government decided to build the CKS Memorial Hall in Taipei to honour the great leader. The project took 26 months to complete, starting from November 1977 and lasting to March 31, 1980. On April 4 of the same year, the inauguration ceremony was held and the Hall was officially opened to the public on April 5.
Inside the memorial is a museum dedicated to the late President Chiang. These include a display of personal items, clothes, military honours and photographs of state visits and overseas visits. The most conspicuous item on display in the center of the building is the late President's limousine.
