No visit to New York is complete without a visit to the observatory of the Empire State Building. That was exactly what I did during my second visit to New York in 1996. The queue was quite long - I waited almost 30 minutes to go up the elevator to the observatory. It was very windy up on the observatory. Looking down lower Manhattan, the twin towers of the World Trade Center stood tall. There is a romantic feeling about being on top of the Empire State Building. The most romantic and touching scenes of movies like `You've got mail' and `Sleepless in Seattle' were filmed at this observatory.

At the souvenir shop inside, you can get a one-cent coin embossed with an image of either the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building for $1.

On my third trip to New York in 2003, the World Trade Center was gone.
