Houston has 2 airports, Bush Intercontinental (IAH), and Hobby (HOU). Bush Intercontinental is by far the bigger of the 2, and the one that serves international flights. But Hobby is a lot closer to the center of town, and being smaller, is much less congested. When flying in or out of Houston, in most cases Hobby is the much easier and time saving option between the two. Bush is located about 30-45 minutes north of downtown (possibly more depending on traffic), yet Hobby is just 10-15 minutes southeast of downtown (again, possbly longer in traffic). So unless you are heading to or from somewhere on the northside of town or northern outlying areas, flying in or out of Hobby can be a lot less of a headache. If you are coming in on or have an international flight, than this tip does not apply. Hobby is actually a hub of Southwest Airlines, with many flights in and out of Houston from most major cities in the U.S. everyday. So if you have a choice of airports in Houston, for most cases, choose Hobby.
