  Magnavox Loudspeaker Monument in Napa
by atufft

The loud speaker was invented around 1910 in Napa by Jensen in his laboratory, which was later renamed to Magnavox. The company grew and moved on to San Francisco and Oakland by the 1920's. Much later, in the 1940's Jensen split off from Magnavox to found his own speaker company that still survives today. There's a small bronze monument downtown marking Napa as the birthplace of the loudspeaker, though.
