Lucky Lab West - Dogs, Men and Beer!
by mtncorg

Lucky Lab Westside is found in a refurbished 1920's Masonic Temple. The Masons seem to be all getting old and don't need so many meeting halls anymore, but I think they would be quite pleased with the way this hall has found its second life. The building is on the east end of the little Multnomah District, which is like many other small gemlike neighborhood centers that can be found outside of Portland's center (for a good description of such a neighborhood in Seattle to the north, see jonathan_c's Fremont District The Fremont in Seattle (as can be said for Ballard, Queen Anne, Magnolia, West Seattle, etc) is much like several neighborhood districts in Portland, maybe not obvious to the casual tourist who comes into for a one or two day visit, but the neighborhoods are what really make these two Northwestern cities so liveable. Back to the Lucky Lab, the same beer line-up as at the Eastside brewpub can be found here, though the food is geared more towards pizza, create a more family-oriented atmosphere. In keeping with the canine-friendly philosophy of the Lucky Lab, there are lots of picnic tables out front where you can enjoy a beer with your four legged friend in the sun while Life drifts by on Capitol Highway.

Favorite Dish: Stumptown Porter (The original nickname of Portland back in the mid-19th Century because of all the treestumps left around as a result of rapid development), and Black Lab Stout are cherished favorites though Super Dog - a hopped up extra pale ale - is most popular.

Address: 7675 SW Capitol Hwy.
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: From downtown, take a bus to Multnomah, or take I-5 south to the Multnomah exit and drive west to SW 31st - the first traffic light - and turn right (north) til it runs into Capitol Highway at a stop sign. The Lucky Lab is just across the street.
