Favorite thing: This gatehouse was originally defended by two portcullises, one of which survives today together with a series of so-called 'murder holes' probably used to douse fires lit against the gates by intruders.

Fondest memory: Just beyond the gateway is a small postern gate, or private entrance, often used by royalty in the 15th and 16th centuries
