After snapping all the photo-op you want to get, it is time to enter the mausoleum itself. This is after all a tribute to Nur Jahan, Shah Jahan's favorite wife who died in 1631. Step up the 22 steps, symbolising the number of years required to build the whole compound, to reach the main building. The monument was built with the finest Agra marble that iluminates when light strike through. There are a lot of carved decorations on the marble, mostly Arabic verses and flowes. Notice that the Arabic verses seem to be of the same size from bottom up. This is due to an optical illusion whereas the scripts on the top are actually larger than the bottom ones to maintain a uniformly flow.
