Posokjeong was a place where Silla kings entertained visiting dignitaries, held banquets, recited poetry, danced and drank wine. Generally, a good time was had by all until, in 927, the Silla King Gyeongae was attacked and killed here by Gyeonwhon, the founder of the rival Baekje kingdom.

The Silla pleasure palace was destroyed and all that remains is an abalone-shaped, granite waterway, in which a stream once flowed.
