"Elevador da Gloria" Ascensor da Glória Tip by sue_stone
Ascensor da Glória, Lisbon: 12 reviews and 22 photos
One of the highlights of Lisbon to me was the gorgeous Elevador da Gloria....I think I may have particularly liked it as my mother's name is Gloria...but, nonetheless, it was pretty great.
The Elevador is a funicular that travels from Baixa to Barrio Alto. It chugs up one of the steepest hills in the city, allowing you to save you energy (and legs) for further exploration.
This tiny tram-looking vehicle is just too cute. A one way trip cost around 1 euro, but was covered by our travel card.
There are actually 2 identical cars, one at each end of the line, that always move at the same time, at around 10 minute intervals. The trip takes only about 90 seconds but is worth the ride.
When you alight at the top you will be rewarded with fabulous views back over the city.
Address: Calcada da Gloria
Directions: Nearest metro: Restauradores
