"Rossio Train Station" Estacao do Rossio - Rossio Train Station Tip by sue_stone
Estacao do Rossio - Rossio Train Station, Lisbon: 14 reviews and 28 photos
I think my favourite building that I saw in Lisbon would have to be the Rossio Train Station.
Designed in 1887, it has fabulous interlocking horseshoe arches - I haven't seen anything quite like them before.
Apparently the building "characterised a late 19th-century nostalgia for the period of the Discoveries when Portuguese maritime power reached its zenith".
I'm not sure about all that, but I just liked the way it looked!
Unfortunately the station was closed for renovations when we were there in Jan 2006, so we just had to make do with admiring it from afar.
Located to the north west side of Rossio, just south of Praca dos Restauradores.
Address: Baixa District
Directions: Nearest metro: Restauradores
