"Mt. Hekla" Iceland Things to Do Tip by lazyman_1

Iceland Things to Do: 998 reviews and 2,342 photos

Mt. Hekla is one of Icelands most active Volcanoes. It last erupted in 2000. While most would think to run from an erupting volcano, I was told that Icelanders flocked to Hekla to try and catch a glimpse. This is the volcano reffered to in Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth. The vast black area at the base is Hekla's lava feild, filled with cooled magma, which make for a nice souvenirs!
