"Mahableshwar" India Things to Do Tip by ashishashar

In the halcyon days of the Raj, Mahabaleshwar used to be the official summer retreat of the Bombay Presidency. This 'Queen' of Maharashtra's hillstations is nearly 250 kms away from the city and breathtakingly beautiful. Sheer gorges, gushing waterfalls and impenetrable jungles where panthers still waylay unsuspecting tourists, Mahabaleshwar is adventure, relaxation and paradise rolled into one - the perfect getaway from the hurly burly of urban life. Innumerable lookouts like Kate's Point and Arthurs' Seat offer dizzying valley views. In addition there are well-marked pony trails through the forest such as Lady Willingdon's Gallop and Duchess Ride, obviously named after long departed Britishers. Mahabaleshwar also has several old hotels where you can sample steaming Mulligatawny Soup and caramel custard served by liveried waiters in true Raj style.
