The province Drenthe with the lowest amount of inhabitans of all Dutch provinces is a good province for cycling. There are 24 described routes in all parts of the province available at the offices of tourist information of VVV and ANWB. Kilometers of bicycle paths are created through the heatherfieds, forests and rural areas in Drenthe.

In summer there is the annual 'Drentse Rijwielvierdaagse', four days cycling along the most scenic nature and interesting places. The starting points in 2006 are in Assen, Emmen, Hoogeveen, Meppel and Diever . There are routes of 30, 40 and 100 KM. A lot of activities are organised in the villages along the route.

But also without participation during those four days or without using one of the routes it is nice to take your bike or hire one to enjoy the countryside of Drenthe.
