The gardens are full of surprises (like a waterpump halfway up a tree) and is now a mini-arboretum, with trees from all over South Africa (mostly labelled). However, the Cape climtae doesn't suit many of them, and they are not good samples of the different species as a result.

It would be easy to spend half a day here in The Gardens and in the various museums alongside. If it all gets too much for your feet, stumble across the road at the very top end and into the Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town's finest and most expensive hotel for tea and scones. Alternatively, turn right into the street by the Cultural History Museum at the bottom end, and walk to a couple of chip shops for less costly sustenance.

A more detailed walk through this area will be the subject of another posting!

Address: South of Wale Street
