Now, I don't have a picture of Hamner Springs (1 and a half hours out of ChCh), but imagine blue colored over touristy hot pools, and there you have it. Yes, I admit, I went there with my friends and had a great time, and the hot pools are really relaxing, but there are sooo many people in the holidays! Go when it's not school holidays, if you hate lots of people around... BUT, the drive, the scenery from Christchurch to Hamner is so beautiful. Mountains, huge fields of grass, rivers...
If you want quiet, private, more traditional hot pools, go to Maruia Springs! About 2 hours out of Christchurch.
