"Adam Mickiewicz Square" Lviv Things to Do Tip by Zo72
Lviv Things to Do: 311 reviews and 904 photos
To the South of the Prospekt Svobody there is Adam Mickiewicz Square (Pl. Mickevica in Ukrainian). It is a busy square with Adam Mickiewicz statue in the middle of it. Two buildings that were rumbling are just being renovated. There is known hotel George there. On the eastern part of this Square very modern (and controversal) bank building was errected which is very opposite to the rest of an old city centre.
Adam Mickiewitz (1798-1855) is considered one of the greatest Polish poets. He never visited Lviv and this statue is here because of the Polish majority that once lived here. Poles were mostly exiled to today's Wroclav after 1944 (because German majority was exiled from that city). Adam Mickiewitz monument was crated by Antoni Popiel. It was erected in 1905 on the place where river Poltva once flew.
