Lviv Things to Do: 311 reviews and 904 photos
In the most central part of Prospect Svobody a Taras Shevchenko monument was raised on a paved plateau (I don't know when so if somebody knows please let me know). It is a place where many people meet, skateboarders show their skills and tourists make photos. Buildings in background give this square pleasant depth making it more than just part of Prospect Svobody.
Taras Shevchenko monument presents poet and events of the Ukrainian past. Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861) was an Ukrainian poet, artist and humanist who is regarded as a founder of modern Ukrainian literature and to some extent of Ukrainian language. His poetry contributed profoundly to the growth of Ukrainian national consciousness. He never visited Lviv so this monument is here for nation building motives.
Address: Prospekt Svobody
