AGHIA SOFIA:

It is a masterpiece of the Byzantine Architecture and considered as the 8th wonder of the world by most art historians.
The external view may not excite you, however as you enter into the basilica, it is not hard to repect and to admire the people who built it and kept it in good shape. Aghia Sophia was built in the 6th century by 2 architects: Anthemius and Isodorus; who realized the dream of the Emperador Justinian; a temple bigger and more stricking than the Temple of Salomon.

Aghia Sophia was converted into a mosque the day Istanbul was conquered by the turks. Although human portrail is forbiden in Islam, the mosaics and frescos were only painted over. Aghia Sophia became a museum in 1935 with the order of Ataturk , Founder of the modern Republic of Turkey.
