The Mount Nelson: "Best Afternoon Tea in the World @ Pink Lady" Top 5 Page for this destination Cape Town Restaurant Tip by jo104

Afternoon tea at the Mt Nelson hotel follows an English tradition which has been fashionable since 1840.
Michael Winner has proclaimed this the "best tea in the world" - serving a buffet of savouries, scones, fruit, assortment of cakes & cream served in every imaginable way.
A variety of tea is served as well & can be enjoyed out on the lounge, terrace or in the gardens. A pianist plays light cotemmporary tunes in the background.
I have been to the well known Ritz in London & in my opinion the Mt Nelson is far better value with more variety. It is more informal then the tea at the Ritz where jackets for gentlemen are required.
Excellent value for R120 which is about £11 but make sure you pre-book.
Tea is served between 2.30 - 5.30pm & a lighter tea is served at R85 between 9.30am - 12.30am daily
Favorite Dish: Chocolate eclairs, berries, savoury quiche - its all very yummy
On my second visit we found the table to be a range of cakes in minature rather then a jam packed table full of goodies as before - compare the 2005 / 2006 pictures
