"Our Lady's Cathedral" Cathedral of Our Lady Tip by Diana75
Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp: 124 reviews and 208 photos
The works to the Gothic Our Lady’s Cathedral in Antwerp started in 1352, but since the first beginning this beautiful church suffered repeatedly of badly damages of Calvinists, during the iconoclastic furies. or French, who even threatened to demolish the building entirely.
The church, which became a cathedral in 1559, was for a long period of time the tallest building in Lower Countries.
But despite all this, important treasuries such as three large paintings by Rubens: Descent from the Cross (1612), Elevation of the Cross (1610) and the Resurrection Triptych (1612), did survived.
