"Haggle Hassle" Tunisia Tourist Trap Tip by Alvik

Tunisia Tourist Traps: 97 reviews and 58 photos

If there is one thing that puts me off is the pushy attitudes of the market traders in the Soux. I found it really difficult to walk through the Soux alone. They had some original lines -- "English?" or "Can I ask question".
There was also some concern about pick pockets. I was followed by some fellas here and there.
Also the prices weren't all that cheap.

Unique Suggestions: Becareful of your wallet and stuff. Keep your valueables in the hotel safe esp drivers license and stuff.
Don't open your wallet and let them see how much you have. Often with bargaining, you should tuck away 10 td in one pocket and 20td in another..so on.
Look see, get an idea on prices of stuff before you settle on a store. Make sure you know what the others are offering. For example I bought something for 4Td which was being offered at 1.50TD. Of course it was too late to do anything but it was a learning lesson.
I bought a kaftan which was tagged at 75TD for 8TD yes I typed it right! Throw impossible prices at them and then bargain up. But smile always!
