Capitol Building, Washington D.C.: 169 reviews and 429 photos
I surely took a walk around the Capitol Building or to be more exact around its fence. The fence is put up quite far from the edifice for the two reasons, I guess: the construction and renovation works in the eastern Capitol grounds and top security. You can't walk across the green Capitol grounds on its eastern side. I've seen a few people with a large banner in front of small, not well seen from the distance fence. There are numerous warning writings "do not pass/enter" put on the fence by the United States Capitol Police.
The walk around the fenced Capitol Building takes some 20 - 30 min. Add breaks for taking pictures. The best places to take pictures of the Capitol are located opposite to its middle eastern (from the steps of the Supreme Court) and western facade (the National Mall). Add the only point when I was allowed to get close to the building, located in its southeastern corner where the Capitol Tours start and library of the National Museum of the American Indian (through glass windows though).
Address: East Capitol Street and 1st Street NW
Directions: Downtown. Metro: Capitol South, Union Station, Federal Center SW (the best for the Capitol Tour). Map here
