the maison carree is a suprisingly well preserved roman temple. it is actually a rectangle, but old french word 'carree' (square) actually just means anything with 4 corners. i think i read somewhere that it is the only preserved roman temple thing in the world but dont quote me on it. when i lived there it was THE place to meet and be seen, it also has some good parking around it and is only a 5 minute walk from the ampitheatre, restaurants and shops.
