Pic 1 - Surrounding the Shwedagon, there are 8 so called planetary posts, each represent a day in the week (Wednesday considered 2 days: morning & afternoon). Beneath each post there is an symbolic animal and on top the statue of buddha. One is encouraged to pour water over the statue at the planetary post which represent your birthday.

Pic 2 - Shwedagon opens until 10 pm. And the view at nite is quite from the day. By the 7 pm, the sky is totally dark and the spot lights around the paya will be switched on. One of the best tip i can give is to go to the spot near at the southern side of Maha Ganda Bell. Face towards Shwedagon, Maha Ganda Bell pagoda should be diagonally in front at your left hand side and another temple on your right hand side. Observe the top of shwedagon and try to step forward or backward. You can start to observe the top starts to change color from green, red, orange, to yellow as you step back.

Address: On Singuttara Hill, East of Kandawgyi lake.
