The Great Falls of the Potomac is one of Virginia's most impressive waterfalls, and is located in Northern Virginia, a 15-minute drive west from WAshington DC. The falls are inside Great Falls Park, a unit of the National Park Service. Great Falls Park also contains the historic Potowmack Canal and the sheer cliffs of the Mather Gorge. Good hiking abound.

Directions: Just outside the DC beltway on VA 193.
