Porthgwarra is a tiny fishing village, close to Land's End. The road to it is steep, narrow and leads through a wooded valley. At high tide there is no beach at all, and it is largely neglected by tourists; anybody you see there is likely to be a local resident.
Its particularity is the tunnel in the rocks leading to the beach, such as it it. This allowed the locals to collect seaweed and bring their boats inland when necessary.
Be careful, this beach shelves quite steeply and poor swimmers might find themselves out of their depth quite quickly
Directions: Take the A30 from Penzance towards Lands End. After passing through Sennen (8 miles) bear left onto the B3315 (Porthcurno) road. About 3 miles on past duck pond, then turn right on blind bend onto unclassified road to Porthgwarra (1.5 miles).
