I stayed in the ones underlined.
11 pound per night

Unique Qualities:
all of them hostels have:
free hot chocolate, tea and coffee in the kitchen, internet access (alas sooo expensive!), snuggly lounges, nice receptionists, sometimes mixed showers *harhar* (but not group showers), funny room and bed namings (e.g. room 'diseases', bed name 'drinking' or 'lung cancer'...), good locations in the cities' centres, lots of information stuff, no curfew or something like 2.30 a.m. at least
Oh, and a rather low security level - no keys or lockers, valuables can be put in the hostel safe, but if you're absolutely into security, this may not be the right accommodation for you...
Castle Rock has:
a free movie every night, nice paintings on the walls,
quick access to the castle and Princes Street Gardens
Oban Backpackers has:
a very nice lounge and a pub right opposite to it, so if you happen to need this feature: you can easily roll home after getting pissed ;oPP
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions:
Castle Rock Hostel (just below the Castle), 15 Johnston Terrace
Royal Mile Backpackers, 105 High Street
High Street Hostel, 8 Blackfri
