  The Ridgeway, near Wayland's Smithy.

The Ridgeway is a 250-mile long prehistoric trackway which runs from the Dorset coast to the Wash, following high ground (which made travelling a little easier). It's at least 5000 years old, and probably considerably more. Most of it is still accessible, and provides excellent walking in beautiful surroundings, passing near to many prehistoric sites. The Oxfordshire section begins near the Vale of the White Horse.

Directions: Use an Ordnance survey map to find the Ridgeway, or follow the signs out of Wantage.
