Singapore Off The Beaten Path: 432 reviews and 573 photos

Pulau means island. It is a Malay word. Pulau Ubin is an island which belongs to Singapore. It is really "off-the-beaten path" from the point of view of a city dweller. Go to Ubin for the nostalgia feel and see how it was like in the old days. I mean, the Kampung days (Kampung means village and it is a Malay word too). In Ubin, you will get to see what you do not see on the main island of Singapore. From durian trees, rambutan trees, stray dogs, kampung-style houses, etc etc.

The activity which you must do there is cycling. Cycle around the small island is kinda enjoyable. Anyway, the whole island is shaded with trees.

To get there, you can take a bumper boat from the Changi jetty, or rather, Changi point. One-way os $2. Once you reach Pulau Ubin, there is a National Parks Board information centre where you can grab some map and enquire about what you can do.

There is an adventure centre in Ubin too. For the more daring ones, get to the Ubin Adventure Centre, reachable by boat from Punggol Jetty at the Punggol Marina Club. Accommodation available.
