"Commission buses" Cambodia Transportation Tip by kanskje

Cambodia Transportation: 251 reviews and 239 photos

Even though we were aware of the 'Scam Bus', we were picked up by a tourist guide with "official authorisation" from the Cambodian government (the guy in yellow in the picture). He guided us through the customs and took us to his office along with 20 other tourists. It looked very professional and did not seem like a scam. Well, the bus 'broke down' conveniently at a shop in the middle of nowhere and was stuck there for several hours. A 4 hour ride became 11 hours.

Me and my friend stopped a car and paid him to get us to Siem Reap. The others told us however, as we met them the day after, that they were transported to the bus drivers guest house on pick up trucks and so to say forced to stay there. The ones that tried to leave were blocked in the doorway by four employees from the guesthouse and later chased and surrounded by scooters. (They found another guesthouse in the end). So be aware.
