Alnmouth, Northumberland: 2 reviews and 8 photos
A Victorian seaside town, on the mouth of the Aln. A lovely place, with a pleasant old fashioned town and beautiful beach. A few golf courses also, Alnmouth being home to the second oldest golf course in England.
Alnmouth was once a large, extremely important port between the Tweed and the Tyne. It was also renowned as a smugglers route in. During the 19th c. storms breached the river and wrecked the port. Nowadays it's a gentle, old fashioned holiday resort. Good for walking, fishing, boating, golfing and not forgetting all the nearby castles, gardens and stately homes.
There is a carpark right by the beach with ample room and parking in the town. The views of the river mouth are wonderful and local fishing is very much alive and kicking here.
Directions: Four and a half miles south east of Alnwick, on the mouth of the Aln. Also it's at the end of the B1138!!
