"Burgtor" Hofburg Palace Complex Tip by filipdebont
Hofburg Palace Complex, Vienna: 217 reviews and 468 photos
Day 2 : Hofburg area
Coming from the Burgring, I entered the Hofburg-complex via the Burgtor.
This gate was built by Peter Nobile in 1821-1824.
But nowadays this gate is more then just an entrance gate, it also a monument, dedicated to the heroes of the Big War (the First World War), and to the Imperial forces armies of the past centuries.
This imposing monument also has a crypt and the a tomb of the unknown warrior
Of course that was the reason why there was a military ceremonial held here when I visited the Vienna (see previous tips and the extra picture in my Travelogue).
